Ingredients:

For the cake:

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/4 cup whiskey (such as Irish whiskey or bourbon)

To prepare the whiskey ganache:

  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons whiskey

For the whiskey whipped cream:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon whiskey

Instructions:

  1. The oven should be set to 350 °F (175 °C). Alternatively, line a 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper and grease the paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. The dry ingredients should be combined with the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla essence. Utilizing an electric mixer set to medium speed, blend well.
  4. Stir in the boiling water and whiskey, and continue to mix until the batter is smooth.
  5. After pouring the mixture into the prepared cake pan, smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  7. The cake should be taken out of the oven and allowed to cool for about 10 minutes in the pan. Move it to a wire rack to complete cooling after that.
  8. While the cake is cooling, prepare the whiskey ganache. Place the chopped semisweet chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
  9. The heavy cream should be heated in a small pan until it barely starts to boil. After pouring the heated cream over the chopped chocolate, wait a moment. Then, whisk until the ganache is smooth and the chocolate has completely melted.
  10. Stir in the whiskey until well incorporated. Let the ganache cool for about 10 minutes, then pour it over the cooled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  11. In a separate mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and whiskey until soft peaks form. This will be the whiskey whipped cream.
  12. Once the ganache has set slightly, decorate the cake with dollops or swirls of the whiskey whipped cream.
